Barbecue Beans


  • 2 cans navy beans, 15 ounce, drained (pinto or kidney beans may be substituted)
  • 2 cans black beans, 15 ounce, drained
  • 3/4 cup Country Sweet Sauce, hot or mild
  • 3 shallots, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 pound bacon, diced, cooked, and drained
  • 1 Poblano pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 Jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled and finely diced
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper


Combine all ingredients into a large pot. Cook covered, over very low heat, stirring occasionally and adjusting seasoning to taste. Beans should be heated 30 – 45 minutes to blend flavors well.

Serves 6-8
